Overview
Carnival Cruise Line is set to launch its all-new Carnival Rewards loyalty program on June 1, 2026, replacing the long-running VIFP (Very Important Fun Person) Club.
This major overhaul modernizes Carnival’s loyalty structure — moving from a system based solely on nights sailed to a new dual model that rewards both spending and engagement.
Guests will now earn redeemable points and status stars, giving cruisers more flexibility and control over their benefits.
Carnival says the goal is simple:
“Reward guests for how they cruise and how they choose to spend their fun.”

💎 Lifetime Diamond Status (New September 2025 Update)
Carnival listened to feedback from longtime loyal guests and announced that:
Anyone who reaches Diamond status under the VIFP Club by May 31, 2026, will be awarded Lifetime Diamond status under the new Carnival Rewards program.
This means you will never have to requalify, and your Diamond benefits will remain active for life.
Guests who earn Diamond after June 1, 2026, will be part of the rolling two-year requalification cycle.
This update replaced the earlier plan for a six-year transition window.
The decision was made to honor guests who have invested decades of loyalty with Carnival and to preserve the prestige of reaching Diamond before the changeover.

Rewards and Redemption
Flexible Use of Points
Points can be redeemed for:
Cruise fare discounts
Onboard credit
Specialty dining or spa treatments
Shore excursions
Exclusive Carnival Rewards experiences
Carnival promises “more ways to use your points — both onboard and on land.”
Ongoing Perks
While specific benefit charts haven’t been finalized, many existing favorites will remain, such as:
Priority boarding and tender service
Dedicated guest services line for top tiers
Special onboard events for Platinum and Diamond members
Recognition gifts (though designs and frequency may change)
Some VIFP traditions like the Gold pins and free arcade credits for minors will be discontinued, replaced by more flexible reward choices.
—
💳 Carnival Rewards Mastercard
A new Carnival Rewards Mastercard (by Barclays) will launch alongside the program.
Cardholders can:
Earn Carnival Rewards points on everyday purchases
Redeem points for cruise-related expenses
Boost their tier status with select bonus offers
Existing FunPoints holders will have their balances automatically converted into Carnival Rewards points.
—
Transition Plan
May 31, 2026: Final day of the VIFP Club
June 1, 2026: Automatic conversion to Carnival Rewards
Current Status Mapping:
Red = Blue
Gold = Gold
Platinum = Platinum (plus 10,000 starter stars)
Diamond = Lifetime Diamond
Transition Grace Period: 2 years (June 2026 – May 2028)
During this time, current perks will continue while guests adjust to the new system.
—
❓️ Why the Change?
Carnival explained that the new program:
Reflects total guest value, not just number of nights sailed.
Aligns with trends in airline and hotel loyalty systems.
Encourages spending across Carnival’s ecosystem (including credit card usage).
Creates flexibility for cruisers to use and enjoy rewards on their terms.
—
Passenger Reaction
Reactions have been mixed but improving since the Lifetime Diamond update:
👍 Positive:
More flexible points redemption
Rewards for onboard and everyday spending
Lifetime Diamond seen as fair recognition of loyalty
👎 Critical:
Concern over “status resets” every two years
Perception that lower-spend frequent cruisers may lose perks
Some traditional benefits (pins, gifts) being phased out
Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald has acknowledged guest concerns and stated that the line will “continue refining benefits based on guest feedback.”
