🇧🇲 PORT GUIDE: BERMUDA

One of the most beautiful destinations we have been to, and an absolute favorite. On this trip, we took a Norwegian cruise out of Boston. The best part was that this cruise had us overnight in Bermuda for two nights, so we were able to spend 3 days exploring this beautiful Island,

Bermuda is the world’s oldest British overseas territory.  Known for its pink sand beaches, historical significance,  shipwrecks, and vibrant culture.

We love history and exploring on our own. So we set off on foot from the port to see what we could find.

Our first stop, which was a short walk from the port, was the Unfinished Church. It was started in 1874 as a replacement for St. Peters church, which had been badly damaged by a hurricane. It was abadoned in 1899 due to lack of funding and disagreements.  Then, after a tornado in 1926 it was damaged.

This site is an absolute must and stunning. It is very large and free to walk in and around.

Next we decided to walk to Fort Saint Catherine’s,  which was a bit of a walk and uphill  but not bad and very scenic. We stumbled upon An old Battery, which was really cool, you werent able to go in but could look through gated entrances.

Also while walking to the fort there are beautiful tree lined walk ways, which help with the heat, and look straight out of a movie.

Fort St. Catherine, if you like history is an excellent place to visit. Dating back to 1609, and is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is part of the first artillery built by the English in the new world.

A short walk from the fort is Tobacco Bay. Which has a beach club, restrooms etc. Breathtaking beaches, and rock formations. We stopped for a local beer , and then went to find a spot. To our surprise there are so many alcoves at this beach you can literally have a private beach to yourself.

The next day we decided to find a tour. We got off the ship and per usual found several local ones at half the cost of through the cruiseline. The one we chose gave us some main attractions in Bermuda. The aquarium and zoo, along with Crystal cave. there is another cave called Fantasy cave, which also would be a great stop, but this tour included the one.

The Aquarium and zoo was fun. Small but outdoor with the ocean next to it and lots of animals to see, and several photo opportunities.

Next our tour drove us through St. George all the way to Crystal Cave (32 miles). All while giving us the history of the island, and site seeing. Very interesting.

Crystal Cave was a must see. Discovered in 1905 by two 12 year old boys looking for a lost cricket ball. Stunning underground pools, and formations are truly a site to see.

After this we were dropped in Hamilton to walk around, and if you are a shopper this is your spot. Then we took a ferry back to port. It just so happened to be the Serenity!

For our last day, we had thought about just doing some shopping , but then thought better of it because what had we not seen? The PINK SAND! So we asked some locals, and found out we needed to go to Horseshoe Bay. Now… our taxi was a bit interesting because let me tell you in these ports the locals drive these streets every day and it can be an exciting ride.

We made it, and when I tell you it is worth it , it is. The beach was gorgeous, and the sand was indeed pink. We strolled along and walked, found some rock formations to walk through, and through to the most picturesque scenery. And once again, our own little private beach with tide pools.

Bermuda is a favorite and was such a relaxing, beautiful place to explore.

We would love to go back as there are many other things we want to see, such as Fort Hamilton,  Blue Hole Park, Fantasy Cave, and much more.
